Stella Polaris AS was founded in 1968 under the name Lenvik Fiskeindustri AS. Lenvik Fiskeindustri started with processing fish, but from 1984 the production also included the production of prawns. From 1989, all activities focused on production of cooked and peeled coldwater prawns. In January, 2002 Lenvik Fiskeindustri AS changed its name to Stella Polaris AS.
